Valencia Elementary School

Specific Details Regarding AJHS and the Valencia School Relocation

Sea Dragon Families,

As a result of the recent closure of Valencia Elementary, and in support of PVUSD families, AJHS will continue to serve as a stop for shuttle service (both to and from school) for Valencia Elementary students. Busses will be loading and unloading at AJHS throughout the entire school day in order to ensure that all students are able to get to and from school safely. I want to thank you advance for your patience and flexibility in regards to the possible increase in traffic. Additionally, I would ask that we all take the extra time necessary to drive slowly, and safely near all of our PVUSD campuses.

Please use the following link to view all PVUSD bus routes.

Dear Aptos Junior High School Parents,

Aptos High School will be hosting our Spring Open House/Parent Night on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 (please see attached flyer).   We invite all 8th grade prospective students’ parents to attend.

At Parent Night, parents will receive an introduction to each of the AHS academic departments, the athletic and student activity programs, as well as information about the registration/9th grade course selection process for the 2017-18 school year.  After the presentation, at approximately 7:15pm, parents will be invited to visit classrooms, to see displays and meet teachers.  Prospective students may attend, but this event is designed mainly for parents and members of the community.

By Friday, February 10th, current 8th grade students will receive two Course Request documents from AHS—a double-sided Course Request Form & a Four Year Planning worksheet.  In addition to those documents, parents and students will receive a Course Request Process Guide (PDF) via email and LoopMail.  Please review these documents with your student and use them to complete and sign the Course Request Form.  Use the guide that is emailed to you to make thoughtful choices about freshman year.  The completed and signed Course Request Form is due on Thursday, February 16th, when AHS counselors will meet with 8th grade students (in their PE classes) to assist them in using an online tool to request their 9th grade courses.  The AHS counselors will be on hand to assist students in requesting their AHS courses on 2/16 and 2/17.

Aptos High School is a California Distinguished School that boasts a competitive academic program with many Advanced Placement (AP) courses.  In addition, we have the largest and most successful athletic program in the county and offer dozens of exciting student-led clubs and activities.  We are excited at the prospect of your student becoming an Aptos High Mariner next year and we are looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday February 15th

7th Grade College and Career Summit- Visit to UCSC

Field Trip: On Friday, March 24th, AJHS will be taking all of the 7th graders to the University of California at Santa Cruz.  This trip will help students find connections to future college and career possibilities. Information and permission slip packets were given to your 7th grader in their elective classes on Monday February 6, 2017.  The permission slip deadline is Friday, February 10, 2017 and should be turned in to their elective teacher.  Any students who do not turn in the permission slips by the deadline will remain at AJHS that day.

Chaperones: We do need chaperone help for this fieldtrip!  We need 15 parents who will attend the entire UCSC trip and supervise a group of ten students.  If you are interested, please return the chaperone form included in the permission slip packet and you will be contacted by email.

Thank you for your help!

If you have any questions about the trip, please contact Stacey Carroll, School Counselor at (831) 728-7834 or Stacey_carroll@pvusd.net

Dear students and staff,

The AJHS Leadership class has been working together to create a safe, accepting, and inclusive school environment. Not In Our School is a national anti-bullying program that we feel will positively impact school culture here at Aptos Junior High School.

During the week of October 17-21, our Leadership class will reveal the results of our online survey, lead student activities, and share the PSA videos made on this important topic.

Thank you for your support of our efforts to improve school culture.

The Leadership Team.
